Named for Malcolm J. Norwood

Malcolm J. Norwood (1927–1989), “the father of closed captioning,” was a deaf educator who led the federal Captioned Films for the Deaf program. He was the first to champion closed captions — captions the viewer turns on — over always-on open captions, opening up television to millions of deaf and hard-of-hearing people. This product is named in his honor.
